If you’ve been around for some time, you know that I LOVE running. Running is so much more than exercise to me, and I’m so incredibly grateful to have re-discovered it 2 years ago.
If you know you need to find your fitness “thing”–you know, what you can actually tolerate and STICK TO long term, may I suggest that you try running? Here’s 5 reasons you might decide that you love it too!
1.It’s free
Of course, along the way you’ll want some gadgets and gizmos, but all you REALLY need are tennis shoes, shorts, and a t-shirt! Now, I run outdoors because that’s what I love, but if you live in a climate that isn’t made for outdoor running much of the year, you can always look into buying a used treadmill on Facebook! I know, that’s not free…but I’m trying to get ahead of your excuses!! 😉
2. It works for ANY schedule
Unlike group fitness, you get to choose when you run. The day, time, length of your workout…it’s all up to you. This is perfect for a working mama like me, because so many groups meet at times that won’t work for my family.
3. You can do it alone or with others
Mostly, I run alone. One, because I like it. And two, because Brandon would be my running partner, but someone’s gotta stay home and take care of these kids! I like my lonely runs because I don’t have to coordinate the when and where, and because I’m an introvert–so those runs actually recharge me and give me rest.
4. It clears your mind and reduces stress
Running is my best thinking time. I solve the world’s problems during my runs (haha). I also find that I am a much happier, calmer version of me when I’m making running a priority. On the weeks where running is on the back burner, my stress level is much higher. And I yell more. #realtalk
5. It’s easy to start
There’s no prep. You just tie your shoelaces and head out the door. You go at your own pace. There’s no rules, lingo, or “moves” to learn. You simply start running. And when you’ve gone as far as you can go, you stop. The next time you run, you go a bit longer. Eventually, you find yourself running a mile. Then more. All without needing anyone or anything to guide your journey.
